Trois milliards d'hommes, soit la moitié de la populations actuelle, à venir en plus sur la planète dans les cinquantes ans à venir. Et ces hommes, comme déjà ceux d'aujourd'hui, voudront plus que jamais des voitures, des protéines animales, des appareils électriques et électroniques. L'exploitation des ressources naturelles s'accéléra et le changement climatique s'emballera. L'auteur explore sans concession le labyrinthe des voies possibles pour éviter le pire : la disparition de l'humanité, désormais une perspective plausible. La question nucléaire est abordée (...) sans a priori, certains espoirs quant aux énergies renouvelables sont réévalués. L'ultime réponse à la question posée est un appel plein de bon sens à la mobilisation générale pour l'émergnece de la nouvelle " intelligence écologique " et l'intervention d'un nouveau paradigme économique. In recent years, we are facing an increase in the use of the word ‘object’ in reference with studies about sound perception. It is suggested that this might be due to the adoption of a visual paradigm, also supported by the noun-based structure of our natural language, which is not adequately discussed. A change in the paradigm from ‘object’ to ‘pattern’ has been proposed.

Esta mesa-redonda foi organizada a partir do encontro de seus autores em um simpósio sobre historiografia no 55º Congresso Internacional de Americanistas, que ocorreu em julho de 2015, em San Salvador. O simpósio em questão foi o de número 69, Historia de la historiografía latinoamericana: nuevas miradas y debates contemporáneos. Os trabalhos aqui apresentados pelo guatemalteco Jose Edgardo Cal Montoya, “La historia como profesión”: el aporte de Ernesto Chinchilla Aguilar a la historiografía guatemalteca y centroamericana e o paraguaio Herib Caballero (...) Campos, Entre Clío y Astra: La Biblioteca Paraguaya del Centro de Estudiantes de Derecho, envolveram estudos historiográficos de temáticas nacionais específicas, respectivamente sobre a figura de um intelectual, e de uma instituição responsável pela divulgação de uma produção do conhecimento. Já os artigos de Coralia Gutiérrez Álvarez, Una introducción a la epistemología desde el sur: por una reflexión situada e Felix Raúl Martínez Cleves, La historiografía en movimiento. Una aproximación a las historias de ciudades en Colombia buscaram um outro viés na discussão historiográfica. Algo que diz respeito não somente a uma análise crítica, denominador comum a todos os quatro artigos, senão um diálogo com a teoria que implicou deslocar de uma zona de conforto a própria historiografia colombiana, para o caso dos estudos da história das cidades feito por Felix Martínez, e mais amplamente o conjunto das denominadas Ciências Sociais, como a discussão proposta por Coralia Gutiérrez. A mim coube analisar os quatro artigos, bem como buscar apontar possíveis diálogos entre os mesmos. Uma menor propensão de minha parte a debates teóricos, e uma maior facilidade a estudos com base mais histórica, como nos trabalhos de Jose Cal e Herib Caballero, se refletiram na maior extensão que dei no trato destes últimos; nada mais do que isso. E de antemão quero agradecer a Felix Martínez, cujos esclarecimentos possibilitaram divisar melhor uma ponte entre todos os trabalhos. (shrink)

Este texto analisa quatro artigos que trataram de debates contemporâneos da historiografia latino-americana, bem como busca apontar possíveis diálogos entre os mesmos. São novos olhares sobre estudos de temáticas nacionais específicas, como no caso guatemalteco e paraguaio, ou no diálogo com a própria teoria. Isto implicou deslocar de uma zona de conforto a própria historiografia nacional para o caso colombiano, ou mesmo para o conjunto das ciências humanas, a partir da constituição de epistemologias vinculadas à descolonização do saber.

A conflict of interest is a situation in which a person has competing loyalties or interests that make it difficult to fulfil his or her duties impartially. Conflict of interest is not categorically improper in itself but requires proper management. A SCOPUS literature search was performed for publications on the efficacy/safety of Phospho-Di-Esterase Inhibitors for treating erectile dysfunction. A categorization tool was used to review and classify the publications as supportive/not-supportive for the discussed active ingredient and reporting or not reporting (...) a COI for that specific drug or for the remaining PDEIs. Multivariable binary logistic regression was performed. In the 419 selected records the prevalence of supportive opinions was higher when a COI for the index label was declared. The CoOpCaT showed good internal consistency, discriminative validity and intra/inter-rater agreement. The strongest predictor for a supportive opinion was the total number of financial COIs for the index label. A mild protective effect of the total number of financial COIs for any competitor label was noted. Financial COIs have frequently been associated with bias, and the measures currently adopted to restrain it lack effectiveness. Some evidence for monitoring and/or compensating this bias is reported here, but the ultimate solution remains distant. (shrink)

As a cultural institution for debate on European history, the House of European History in Brussels is a perfect example for the complementary relation between history and the present, since its main aim, as it is being claimed, “gives visitors the opportunity to learn about European history and to engage them in critical reflection about its meaning for the present day”. The main focus of the article is the analysis of the speeches of German and Austrian MPs presented in the (...) plenary debates of the European Parliament in spring 2011 on the expenditures on the building, in which the House of the European History is to be established. The focus of the analysis lies on the lexical level in order to prove the typical aspect of the political language in the European Parliament, which is the special mixture of various specialist languages. Der Artikel sucht eine kritische Auseinandersetzung mit der sogenannten Finalisierungsthese. Diese postuliert eine externe Steuerung der Wissenschaft, die "Indienstnahme" der "wissenschaftlichen" durch die "gesellschaftliche Praxis". Schon im Ansatz zeigt die Finalisierungsthese einige gravierende Mängel, die noch gravierender in ihren methodologischen Voraussetzungen - u.a. der Ablehnung der Kausalforschungsmethode - zum Ausdruck kommen. Bei näherer Analyse enthüllt sich die Finalisierungsthese als rein normatives Konzept, als der bloße Anspruch, Wissenschaft könne und solle extern gesteuert werden.

The paper concerns the textual form of the sentence Crit. 48e4. A return to the transmitted infinitive πεῖσαι is proposed; at the same time, it is demonstrated that the sentence is thereby ambiguous. Yet, it can be shown that this ambiguousness does not render the passage meaningless. In fact, the transmitted text is interpretively extremely rich, because with the indefinite infinitive a central problem of the dialogue, the demand ‘to convince or obey’, is accentuated in a distinctive way, namely in (...) respect of the personal relation of the two philosophising friends. For the dramatic effect of the dialogue this passage is of great importance. (shrink)

The journal aims to contribute to our understanding of Greco-Roman culture and its lasting influence on European civilization. The constructionism is an epistemology that is discussed in several social and educational disciplines. The key thesis is that the human world is based on perception and is a construction of a reality that lies outside of the knowing subject. Everything that can be known of this external reality is created by the observer. The following article describes the tradition of this epistemological position of skepticism and the different perspectives and,,schools" of this constructionist paradigm. Some unsolved questions are discussed, and (...) it is asked whether this paradigm is really new and innovative. The last section concerns the reception of these ideas within the educational sciences and pedagogical practice. (shrink)

Hurka der Selbstthematisierung des Gehirns und zeigt: Mit jeder Äußerung, gleich in welchem Medium, betreibt das Gehirn in einer selbstreferentiellen (...) Listening to someone from some distance in a crowded room you may experience the following phenomenon: when looking at them speak, you may both hear and see where the source of the sounds is; but when your eyes are turned elsewhere, you may no longer be able to detect exactly where the voice must be coming from. With your eyes again fixed on the speaker, and the movement of her lips a clear sense of the source of the sound will (...) return. This ‘ventriloquist’ effect reflects the ways in which visual cognition can dominate auditory perception. And this phenomenological observation is one what you can verify or disconfirm in your own case just by the slightest reflection on what it is like for you to listen to someone with or without visual contact with them. Thomas Kuhn dengan konsep revolusi ilmiahnya memiliki karakteristik pemikiran dan model filsafat baru dalam hal sejarah lahirnya ilmu pengetahuan dan filsafat sains serta peranan sejarah ilmu pengetahuan dalam mengkonstruksi ataupun merekonstruksi munculnya ilmu pengetahuan baru. Bagi Thomas Kuhn sejarah ilmu pengetahuan merupakan starting point dalam mengkaji permasalahan fundamental dalam epistemologi keilmuan karena sains pada dasarnya selalu ditandai dengan kuatnya paradigma serta revolusi ilmiah setelahnya. Fase inilah yang diistilahkan Thomas Kuhn sebagai fase sejarah lahirnya ilmu pengetahuan baru, dimulai dengan normal science, (...) kemudian terjadi anomaly dan crisis, setelah itu barulah muncul revolusi ilmiah sebagai bentuk lahirnya ilmu pengetahuan baru. Pemikiran Thomas Kuhn tersebut dapat dikontekstualisasikan dengan pengembangan keilmuan Islam dengan tujuan membangun keterbukaan pemikiran keislaman terhadap anomali dan crisis serta munculnya revolusi dalam ilmu keislaman sehingga memotivasi munculnya paradigma baru di ranah keilmuan Islam. Berbagai pendekatan dalam studi Islam dapat digunakan seperti pendekatan normatif, historis, sosiologis, antropologis dan pendekatan lainnya dalam rangka membumikan Islam menjadi agama yang rahmatan lil alamin. Matthew's Christology is theocentric, presenting God's rule as manifest in the life of Jesus as an alternative to the sovereignty and power of this-worldly rulers. This Christology is expressed in the narrative mode. It can be appreciated and appropriated better in the context of the narratives in which contemporary interpreters are embedded.
